Vignoles and Traminette Grapes are Off the Vine!
With all this colder, rainy weather, we’re thrilled our white grapes are off the vine and safely fermenting into yummy Vignoles and Traminette wine inside the comforts of the winery! With the help of our much-loved volunteerSam (and Addie supervising, of course) we harvested and processed over 6,000 lbs. of fruit on Labor Day. So much for getting some rest over the holiday weekend ;-). Take a look at some of our highlights from harvest in therecently-released You Tube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-g2nnoimkcU
On Friday, Jason and I harvested nearly a ton of Traminette grapes. While it was a ton of work (no pun), we were definitely happy we got them off the vine since the weather changed Saturday afternoon. Cold, rainy weather can easily drop the sugar level in the grapes and can potentially lead to mold and rot problems. Now we just have to keep our fingers crossed and pray for warmer weather to get the Norton to ripen! However, they’re looking great on the vine and we’re looking forward to having a lot more much-loved Norton wine in 2009.
